Shielded or non-shielded cables?
Many VOVOX® sound conductors are available in a non-shielded 'direct'
version and in a shielded 'protect' version. The shielding prevents interference
such as humming or buzzing sounds, but at the same time causes a small
loss in sound quality. There are applications in which shielded cables
are mandatory. On the other hand, especially with balanced cables - even
without shielding – undesired audible interference is rare. For
this reason, 'direct' sound conductors can offer even better results in
these cases.
Generally speaking, we suggest using 'protect' cables for all applications
in which interference would otherwise cause problems. In all other cases,
the non-shielded 'direct' versions should be favored.
Please use 'protect' sound conductors for the following applications:
– when interference will necessarily lead to an uncontrollable situation,
e.g. for live concerts or live recordings
– for amplified music instruments with pickups
What is the optimal length of a cable?
Though we do like to sell long cables, shorter ones offer better sound
quality! Many pro¬perties of cables are directly linked to their length.
As a result, shorter cables cause less sound alteration. In the case of
instrument or speaker cables, the effect is especially noticeable. For
this reason, microphone cables for stereo recordings or loudspeaker cables
should be of the same lengths on the left and right channels.
Straight or angled ¼” phone
plugs?
Especially in the case of instrument cables, we suggest carefully choosing
the kind of connector that suits you best: Using a 90° right angle
plug will often reduce the mechanical stress on the instrument as well
as on the cable. Like this it contributes to longer service life of both,
cable and jack.
